Larga

Larga, or mottled seal (lat. Phoca largha) – species of seal, which is in close relationship with the harbor seals and having a similar appearance. Dwells in the northern Pacific Ocean from Alaska to Japan and the Russian Far East coast.

Color skins is extremely varied, as can be dark gray and silver white. Small dark spots cover almost the entire body of the animal. Spots are irregular in shape.

Larga Seal are rather large animals, it can weigh up to 100 kg or more in length, an adult individual grows up to 2 meters or more. In periods of mating spotted seals crawl out of the water on the ice floe, where from February to March born offspring. Lifespan spotted seals up to 35 years. Spotted seal population is estimated at 230,000 individuals.
